Now that we are finally getting settled into summer, we have a spare moment to share our news! I am one of three summer interns that are trying our hand at farming this summer, and attempting to organize the chaos that is summer at the farm. Noor, Yoni, and myself (Carmen) have been working hard to get off to a good start, and have big dreams. For now, though, we thought we would share the work that we have already been doing. We got a seed order in early this spring, and although we had some problems with greenhouses, transplanting, aphids, etc. we did manage to successfully start and transplant many tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and onions. We have gotten some other seedlings from a farming friend of Yoni's, and a neighbor of mine in Iowa to make up for those lost. We borrowed a rototiller from a friend of Yoni's at Cope Environmental Center, and have managed to reclaim the entire back garden from weeds and entropy. Since then we have filled almost all of it with plants, and have marked off spots for everything yet to be planted. We have also been trying to fill every possible space outside of the garden with plants, and have begun clearing a brand new "secret garden" behind the compost. Some wonderful friends of the farm, Sarah, Sarah, and Ariel, helped us to organize the community garden this spring, so we have more community gardners than recent years, and the plots are filling the entire "front garden."

This is the nearly completely planted "back garden:"

Here are some of our beautiful plants!

One of our ideas to grow vegetables outside of the garden was to plant peas in a shopping cart.

We are working hard on clearing a space for the brand new "secret garden" by hand.

We have a bunch of new baby chicks:

One of our next projects will be to transform our herb garden into Flower Island!

We will write again soon to report on our progress with all of these projects.

Love and Light,

Carmen
